Gujarati is a head-final, or left-branching language. Adjectives precede nouns, direct objects come before verbs, and there are postpositions. The word order of Gujarati is SOV, and there are three genders and two numbers.[82] There are no definite or indefinite articles. A verb is expressed with its verbal root followed by suffixes marking aspect and agreement in what is called a main form, with a possible proceeding auxiliary form derived from to be, marking tense and mood, and also showing agreement. Causatives (up to double) and passives have a morphological basis.[83]

Gujarati and closely related languages, including Kutchi and Parkari Koli, can be written in the Arabic or Persian scripts. This is traditionally done by many in Gujarat’s Kutch district.

The smaller foothold the Portuguese had in wider India had linguistic effects. Gujarati took up a number of words, while elsewhere the influence was great enough to the extent that creole languages came to be (see Portuguese India, Portuguese-based creole languages in India and Sri Lanka). Comparatively, the impact of Portuguese has been greater on coastal languages and their loans tend to be closer to the Portuguese originals. The source dialect of these loans imparts an earlier pronunciation of ch as an affricate instead of the current standard of .

This is an amazing app if you are trying to convert meanings on the fly, specially when reading books , literature, veds, purans and coming across words that are not commonly used on today’s day to day conversations. The star feature is amazing and helps me track new words I learn and revisit them.3 things would suggest to help the app and usage immensely1. Ability to suggest new words if we can’t find ours.2. Fix the back button. Back button should really take you back from where you came rather than prefixed static pages. Currently it does not track your navigation and so if I search for a word and click on suggested meaning and go back I expect to go back to the word I searched but it takes me to search page instead.3. Give English and Gujarati meanings together and side by side to better understand the word searched. Currently if you search in Gujarati you only get English words and you need to click on each English word to get Gujarati synonyms
